Goleta Beach hosted the “Out of Darkness” Community Walk and Rally on Saturday, October 14th
ISLA VISTA, Calif. — The annual march was organized by The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The AFSP is a nationwide non-profit with chapters throughout the United States. Their mission is to bring resources and hope to those affected by suicide.
For 19 years, community members have gathered to remember their loved ones in this event. The march now reaches over 400 communities, including Goleta.
Suicide affects one out of every five families. In Santa Barbara, the county coroner reported over 50 individuals had intentionally taken their lives in 2023.
